Comment:

I just finished reinstalling windows 2kpro for a friend yesterday and today started reinstalling updates, drivers, programs etc.

The last program I installed happend to be direct X 9. Now the computer is running extremely sluggish for some reason. It was pretty peppy before I installed dx9. I don't know if it's incompatible with something or what. Is there any way to remove it??? I hate to run system restore because I have installed almost every program of his today!

I looked in add/remove software and didn't see it either.

I think he can live without dx9 I just installed it because I have it in my computer updates collection of software for windows.

Or should I just try installing dx8 instead overtop of 9?

I'm at a loss, I hate to format and start all over as i'm doing all this in my free time. I had no idea it would cause this problem or I wouldn't have installed it in the first place. I know it has to be dx9 cause it was running great right before install.

Thanks

Chad

Reinstall Windows and DirectX 8.1.You need to have an AGP video card that supports DirectX 9.0c to take advantage of it.Good luck.

You have 128 MB ram on that system. with prices dropping every day, you should be able to add another 128 to make it even faster, with or without dx9.

Yes, Dorext X9 is better than dx 8.1
you should add your ram and change a good graphic card.

Well I would but it's not my computer i'm just reinstalling for a friend. I would suggest Like mabey a 64mb agp card, 512mb ram and a nice athlon 1ghz for cheap but some people don't care that much. What he has if fine for surfing the internet and checking email.

I guess I get carried away when I do upgrades or reinstalls.

Direct X Happy Uninstaller looks like it would work but of course the part I need requires paying a registration fee.

Athlon XP 2700+ @ 2.17ghz
