can someone tell me how to install a second hardive ive tried it i think its called an ide but when i boot up its says something about dma pool data insert disk si there anywhere round this in the bios please help as ive only got 800mb on my hardrive and my pc is really slow

As a stop-gap measure, delete your Temporary Internet Files (Control Panel/Internet Options), anything in WINNT/Temp, and anything in the folder "Documents & Settings/[Userid]/Local Settings/Temp", uninstall any games or apps you don't need, clear out the Recycle bin, and then defrag the drive. You may be surprised how much space you'll recover - enough maybe to put off the HD install until you've got a good grasp of how to do it without too much hassle. Check the amount of space allocated to TI Files in Internet Options - you probably don't need any more than 100Mb with a dial-up modem, and can set "Empty Temporary Internet Files when browser is closed" in Options/Advanced if you have cable or ADSL, as the files download so fast anyway.
