Hi.

Just uprgraded to W2K Pro from Win98. (reformatted HD using NTFS). I'm much impressed with the security of the system - particularly the ctrl-alt-del "lock computer" which halts the PC until my password is entered. Unfortunately, I did something wrong during the original install, and I cannot figure out how to now force the PC to ask for my password on bootup. The comp' just boots straight into W2K (with access to all my files!) without asking for my password. Which really defeats the object ......

The PC is a stand-alone and used at home only, and is not part of a network (nor will it be). I don't really understand all the various "permissions" for various levels of admin and security. The PC will be used by me only. I just want it to request my password at bootup. Can this be done? Or will I have to do a re-install? :( :(

Thanks

D

Duh!!!!!!!!

Okay, sorted it out myself! (Using W2000's built-in help files).

As they say, when in doubt - read the manual!

Original post was so dumb, I wish I could delete it!

Hi Dennis, there is no such thing as a dumb question. I asked, then took a 16 month course on Win2000 and Win2000 Server and WinnNT4.0. Don't ever be shy about asking questions.

Hi Dennis,
I totally agree with A+Tech. Even when we figure it out, and it's so simple. It is those simple things that can escape even the best of them. So - don't beat yourself up to much. I do it all the time.

LOL! Yea, there's no such thing as a dumb question, just a lot of inquisitive idiots. J/K. We all gotta learn somehow, and even if it turns out to be a simple answer, at least you learned something and can share with the rest so that the next person who encounters the problem has an immediate answer. Cheers. :)

Here is solution. Control Pahel ---->users
May be you can see option "ask password during boot" you have to click that BOX.

OR
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon and AUTOADMINLOGON(right site) if you see autoadminlogon"1" then change to "0". you should be able to login with password.
