Hey! I have a problem, I can't format the drive where my OS is placed. I'm using windows 2000 proffessional and would like to delete everything from my computer, also my OS. The hard disk is about 20gb. Can YOU help me??? Pleace

If the computer supports cd-rom boot, boot with the W2K cd in the drive, pick clean install, and you will be presented with a screen where you can remove and/or create partitions, and then format in either FAT32 or NTFS.
If you want to do it with a W98/DOS boot disk then you need to run fdisk and delete all non DOS partitions then create new partitions and format.

Dear sir,
I do not know how to format a system, and am very much interested in know how?please i want you to help me in any way to send me floppya: or cd that contain how to format and partition a hard disk, any of the software. sir i will be very grateful to received that reply from you.thanks.Mr Magnus Mayford.

Maxblast plus is a FREE utility from Maxtor which allows you to format and partition hard drives. It is very easy and can be downloaded from maxtor's website.
www.maxtor.com
I use it all the time and it works great!

Both these links detail how to use Fdisk/format to partition/(re)format a drive.

Kyrre:
If your system will not allow a CD boot then use the 4 W2K setup floppies; boot up with them providing the CD as well. Then choose the create/delete partitions option (logically delete) to remove the partition; then recrate and format as fat32 according to the OS intended.
You can also delete etc. using Fdisk (tutorials above); you will need either '9x or a DOS (ideally 6.22) boot-disk to do this. Fdisk will only remove ntfs partitions from a Primary location; it will not remove it form Extended sace. ntfss shows up under Fdisk as non-DOS partition(s).
Also remember (and some folks don't necessarily realise/understand this); you cannot reformat a partition that is in use by the OS involved. It's a bit like asking it to commit suicide...
You do not ned to use add-in utils to do what you want...
Magnus:
I think all the info you reequire is in the two links at the start of this post?
If you need sutiable boot-disk(s), then visit:
http://www.bootdisk.com
and download the version required. Ideally get both the '9x version you want 'and' the DOS6.22 version; both with CDROM drivers. A DOS version is useful to have around at any time...
And a general 'how to remove/uninstall W2K' link... covers most situations.
