Well.... Here we go.

Why a logon script?
Well its a way of giving a set of instructions to each computer/user which can be changed and managed from the server. IE if you wanted to map a drive (have a folder on the server be "assigned" to a drive letter on the PC, you would be best by adding the command to the logon script and then you wouldn't have to go around to each pc and map the drive.
Also you are able to give different logon scripts to different users, ie one logon script for administrators and another for all users.
It also is a very convenient way of mapping a users home directory (users area on the server) to a drive letter.
There are many other reasons but that will do for the mean time.

How to create logon scripts?
Firstly you need to find where to logon script should be located. I think it is in the c:\winnt\system32\repl\import\scripts but it maybe easier if you have the permissions just to go to \\servername\netlogon

Now you need to create and logon script... Probably best to search on the web for examples. this then can be called say "users.bat"..... It must be a .bat file.

Now you need to add the name of the logon script to the user you wish to allocate it to. Go to user manager (WinNT) active directory users and something? and go to properties of that user and add the name of the logon script to the appropreate space (in profile.. Logon script name on NT).

Goog luck.

Im sure people will add to this and correct the may errors I have probably made (sorry all this is off the top of my head).

Matt
