Hi

I'm having trouble configuring a cable modem (external) with win2000. Its the Rogers service, which only comes with support for winNT. If some has had experience configuring this, please pass on the instructions!

Thanks,
Mike Noble

cable modem externat?!? it's alway external no???
i was used a cable modem with windows 2000 look for the network and dial up connection in the control panel (start\setting\control panel\network~1)
look for the propriete of the local area connection (if you don't use sharing fichier and folders you can unsistall it )
before if your modem is not an USB modem you need to install your ethernet card ,you know that and i'm soory i don't know for an usb modem
and you nedd to use the conenction wizxard and make an acount with the LAN setting ...

Seeing as how I have NO idea what response # 1 was trying to say, I thought I'd say something myself. A cable modem (at least all the ones I've ever seen) is essentially an ethernet hub, with the uplink going into the cable. You should just need a working ethernet card with DHCP enabled. To do that, just turn EVERYTHING off in the TCP/IP settings for your card, and make sure that DHCP is enabled in the settings (I forget exactly where, but its under the properties for the network.)

Go to the network neighborhood and right click. Select properties. Your lan card will show up in the list. Right click and then properties again. Select manual settings and enter yours. You won't even have to restart your computer.
