I have Win98 on my c drive and win NT 4.0 on my d drive. Now, I want that my Win NT is the only operating system I have and I want to delete Win98. Can I do that? And I also want to upgrade my Win NT with Windows 2000. Is there maybe an option in Win 2000 to change dual boot in single boot?

there is no problem to delete win98 because be sure, that you donīt delete ntldr and boot.ini from disk c:. You can delete the entry for win98 in the boot.ini and the value for time 0. So so have an Single boot system. Hope I could help you

I wouldn't mess with boot.ini if I were you. In windows 2000 right click MYComputer on the desktop. System properties will be displayed. Click the tab that "Advanced". Press the button "Starup and Recovery". A Defualt operating system menu is displayed. Select "Microsoft windows 2000". Below this unselect the checked box "Display list of operating systems for "x" seconds. Good luck. :~)

Both answers are correct and should work but as a tip: Try installing Win2000 as a third operating system (if you have another partition left) and look at it first. There are lots of drivers missing and some software won't work as well. Keep your running OSes as long as you're not really sure that Win2K can replace them both. In my opinion it's better to install the W2K on a blank partition but it should also be possible to update your WinNT. I won't try to update Win9x, because the differences between the NT kernel and the DOS based Win versions are quite big. My best tip is to try W2K but not to remove all your running systems from your PC. When you're sure everything works with W2K and you want to have it as your only OS, format your HD and reinstall W2K on a blank system. I have Win98SE running as a second OS because my graphic card won't accelerate under W2K and my soundcard uses only the friont speakers and not the rear, and some Games won't install let alone run under W2K and the drivers for my second graphic card won't function at all and so on... I really like W2K and the way it is working but hard- and softwaremanufactorers have to do a lot of work before it will be ready to have it as a single boot system. ...just my opinion. Idefix
