how to add dependency to an existing service

July 7, 2009 at 08:25:08
Specs: Windows 2000, VMware
I have an existing service that starts and runs fine. it is a vendor product that I can describe if it's relevant. It currently has no dependencies.

I have added a new service (iSCSI Initiator, in case it's relevant) and I want to modify the first service so that it's dependent on the newly-added service

fwiw: Based on a note from Microsoft's KB, I tried to modify the Registry entry for the service, and add a dependency value. This hosed the machine. It starts and reboots itself in 60 sec, even starting in Safe Mode.

To get out of this, either destroy it, and start over, or install another copy of W2K on the same machine, and use the second copy's regedit to fix the Registry of the first copy.
