Comment: Hi can you help. They guy that takes care of our company IT has left and I have to take over things until we get it sorted, but I am a complete novice when it comes to networks. We have a network currently set with windows 2000 server up and I’m trying to add a new laptop to the network. I was told before the guy left to connect the lap top to the network and right click on my computer and select poperties, Computer Name and change the domain name to our company’s domain name. It doesn't work so I take it that there is more to do than this. Could you guys give me a little advice on how to sort this? Thanks

Reply: (edit)Is this laptop being connected wireless or by cable. If it is wireless, make sure that the switch that turns on the laptop wireless is turned on. Then select connect and use the password for your wireless network. If it is by wire, open the control panel and seclect Network Connections, then select the windows setup that you want to use at the top left corner of the screen to set up the laptop to your network. Reply: (edit)First of all, make sure the computer does indeed have network connectivity. If it doesn't, you won't be able to add it to the Domain. Life's more painless for the brainless.
