Here's the deal... Go ahead and flog me if you want for posting a software question, but I've exhausted all sources.

Win2K OS, running Outlook 2002. Repeatedly asks for user password when "remember password" box is checked. Remembering the password is not essential, but the user prefers that method. I found this article: Q290684, ran the reg hack, and still the problem occurs.

Any suggestions? Thank all..

Jennifer, seems like a simple problem, though nothing with MS is really as simple as need be.

I have encountered this before. While the registry hack addresses an issue within the os, I beleive your issue stems from the security side of outlook.

Of course, I am going out on a limb and assuming that this has been overlooked...

Now, I do not have a win2k box handy, so be flexible with my directions.

If you look into your account setup, you will likely find that you have enabled the "SMTP server requires authentication" or something similar. If this is checked, you will be prompted for your password even if the "remember password" option is checked. You really should only need to have this setting checked when using an IMAP server from a remote connection(my experience.

Hope this solves your problem. I am assuming that you have tried detect/repair from the help menu as well as changing the security settings within IE. If not, those are two more avenues of troubleshooting you can try.

Thanks for the suggestions. The Key issue was what I tried before.

Unchecking the smtp authentication didn't work either.

For now, the user just has to enter his password until I can figure out why this is doing this..
