if you simply want to surf the internet, or do simple tasks, i'd recommend the Pentium. but, in my computer tech opinion, if you want to do gaming then go AMD. on this note though, if your gonna upgrade soon to AMD, wait it out just a bit longer. AMD is getting ready to release its 64bit processor, which will force technology in that direction. the 800mhz FSB offered by Intel is tempting but more or less you should build your pc around what type of user you are. Gamer? Surfer? my last point : stay with Windows 2000 Pro, i have used almost all OS in the Microsoft library, and the only difference between 2K and XP is the 'fluffiness'. i wasn't at all satisfied with XP so it be gone. XP is also the starting OS where you won't pay for the software, take it home, you will have to pay a MONTHLY fee. like Microsoft doesn't have enough cash. if only they made more compatible software / hardware for Linux or Unix.... we can still hope... all for now. :) P51
