Comment:

Is there a way to completely remove IE from 2000 pro or make it non executable.
I am using foxfire web browser but some links cause IE to run and I can't stop it from running. I want to remove IE from being able to execute at all.

hater,

try going into the control panel and then into add/remove programs and then into add/remove windows components. in there uncheck the IE box and it should unstill the browser for you.

Not a good idea to try to remove it. If it does go it will do so kicking and screaming and creating general havoc. Leave it there but don't use it if you don't want to.

Bit of a wit....half to be precise.

I think there is a util (or a routine) that enables you dig it out; but I would tend to encourage leaving it be. There are still many sites "out there" that do not work properly with firefox etc. (yet). IE still dominates the scene (for now) and occasionally you may have to return to it when firefox etc. won't work properly (certain graphics etc may not open).

I'm trying out firefox and have found a few sites that don't work properly with it; IE does allow that fall-back (when need-be). Also I have yet to succeed in getting "getright" (an excellent download manager) to work with firefox v1.0. Again IE does allow me to use "getright" when so wished.

ferg6,

Exactly right about kicking and screaming.

What I did was:

type nul > iexplore.exe

Which renders it harmless.
