Diskettes are bootable as long as the "Boot" files are on them, and you set your BIOS to use Floppy or Removable Devices as first boot device.

Go here to get files to create your disk:

www.bootdisk.com

Great site...

I assume the disk you create with the files that Intel has on their website is to "flash" the BIOS--which basically updates it.
Create the boot floppy from Intel's site and make sure the boot order goes to the floppy first and not the hard drive. It should do the rest for you once it boots off the floppy--it might say something like "do not turn power off while BIOS is being changed" or something like that.
Good Luck.

Use either DOS or '9x boot-disk to flash/upgrade the bios....

bootdisk.com provides you with an image file that you have to extract - they're self-extracting files.

http://www.bootdisk.com/read1st.htm

details how...

Once you have the bootdisk, you either boot up with it and then change to the bios flash floppy and run it; or (as Dell suggests in their case) you can copy the bios file to the floppy and run it all from a single disk - no disk change.

When you download the upgrade there should be info on the web-site about using it???

Be carful about this process; if you get it wrong you may disable the bios; which means (I think) it's bye-bye to that MoBo - as you could end up unable to boot, and thus unable to have another go...

format a: /s only applies to DOS/'9x

This is a W2K forum so presumably SAM has only W2K? If he had '9x or DOS to hand, then why would he have gone to bootdisk.com?
