How do you disable the DHCP option in Win2k? If I put in the network specific information, if looses the network connection. I do have a router installed, which I use as my DHCP server, but need to know how to disable this feature in Win2k for better security on the network.

You disable DHCP by putting in the info manually, and you said doing this breaks your net connection.
Right click My Network Places, then left click properties, then right click local area connection, then left click on internet protocol, then click on the properties button. Then click on the use the following ip address, etc. You will have to enter the gateway and the dns server ip's on the advanced tab as well.

I tried entering that information already and that's when I lost the connection to the internet. I used the IP address assigned to the Win2k machine by the router, with the same gateway and dns specific information that the router has, but it didn't work. Any other ideas?

If you are sure the info is in correctly, then it must be a config prob on the router, or it only supports dhcp. I'd look at the router docs/config that seems to be where the problem lies.

Thanks for the advise. I figured out the problem. I was using the default gateway for the server itself, when I should have been using the server WAN address as the default gateway.
