I have win98 and win2k dual boot set up on my computer. Now I want to delete the win2k completely and upgrade my win98 to win2k. How do I remove the win2k? Is it safe to just delete the WINNT folder?
Thanks

To remove w2k from a separate partition:
Boot into Windows 98.
If you don't have one, make a bootdisk from add/remove programs in the control panel.
Boot to it.
At the a:\> prompt type: sys c:
If all goes well you should see: system transfered.
When you reboot, you will go straight into Windows 98 without giving you a choice of OS's.Back in win98...
Make sure you are set to view all files, including hidden system files.
Do a search for and delete: boot.ini, ntdetect.com, and ntldr.
Delete the Winnt folder.Reboot to make sure you can still boot into Windows 98(...you should be fine...)
If all of this is on the same partition, you may loose some functionality on some programs becuase Win98 and W2k are sharing the Programs folder. You will have to reinstall those.
Now, make sure that you have downloaded any w2k drivers that you need and put them in a safe place.
Put in the W2k cd and run the check upgrade.
You can run this app by itself by going to start>>run>>x:\i386\winnt.exe /checkupgradeonly ...with "x" being the drive letter of your cd rom... or it will automatically run when you start the upgrade.
Make sure you have a look at it.
If it says to remove a program, do so.
I would also suggest you take the time to totally remove any antivirus or firewall software before starting the upgrade as they will sometimes interfere.
You can reinstall them after you are up into W2k.Once you have everything set to do the upgrade... start the install from within win98.
Good luck.
