hi, i realised (too late) that i need to press F6 b4 installing win2k in a new SATA drive..
now i've finished installing win2k pro and all the other apps (MSOffice, etc etc), the Maxtor 120G SATA drive seems to work fine, like a normal drive. am i getting the SATA advantage?
i tink not. i've tried to install SATA driver download fr Abit website (mobo is Abit IC7) but it doesnt install like that.
my qn is, how do i install the driver for SATA harddisk now that win2k is oredy up and running? must i reformat and reinstall everything? help is appreciated!
thanks,

How does Device Mgr "see" the drive? The fact that you can boot to Win2k on this SATA drive indicates Win2k "sees" it as something it can support. I take it the drive is plugged into a PCI adapter rather than the motherboard-based controller? If so, your driver update should be directed to the "controller" of the drive, the PCI adapter. I would guess MAxtor has diagnostic tools to determine if your drive is running the way it should/could.

hi, gd tips on the maxtor diag tool.. i'll try that later.
the Device Mgr see the drive as a nnormal drive, under Disk Drives and it has the default microsoft 1999 driver. i read the maxtor manual it said to chk make sure it is running the way it should, it should appear under SCSI & RAID Controller section.
and oh, the sata hd is plugged to the motherboard connectors/headers. not using the IDE cable, but use the smaller & thinner cable which has "Serial ATA" printed on the cable.
the connector on the Abit mobo is marked SATA1 & SATA2. so i guess i shd connect the HD to there (if i'm wrong, pls correct me wat i shd do).
any thoughts?
