I just set up a new 2000 for a friend, and after adding a few items I went to get into start>run>'msconfig' in order to uncheck what showed up in the right side of the tray, but it seems that 2000 doesn't take msconfig(as my 98 and ME does), heck I have to get rid of some of those icons in the right(near the clock)part of the tray.

Any trick to this, and is there any pages you can recommend on the in's and out's of win2000.

Thanks,
Erin

I have been told msconfig can be installed from w98 cd. A program I like is startup control panl by mike lin,works very well and no reboot after changes.

Someone by the name of "Peranders" posted this on July 10/2001;
Many people ask about MSCONFIG in win 2K and here's a suggestion:
Go to http://www.withoutlimitations.com/stuff/msconfig.exe and the download will start automatically. Copy the file into System32 and you're ready to run MSCONFIG just as you did under Win 98 and ME.

I hope it helps. Just a suggestion -- Using the search slot at the top of this page and then selecting the OS you have and hitting "go search" is a much faster way to get information, rather than waiting for someone to response

Here's another Post by a guy named Tony;

Vince: Download this utility and instll it. It will be in the Control Panel and it works great.

If you ever need anything,try the search slot at the top of this page. Select the OS and hit "go search" it's a lot faster than waiting for help.

Go on the internet and search for a freeware program called "Statup Cop"

it is a very small and nice program it will show you all of your programs loading up, you have an option to disable or remove it completely. You can set profiles that are change on the fly if you need them to.

If you can't find it or are lazy to look for it, email me and I'll send it to you.

yeah you won't be able to use the msconfig command. If you want to try and get rid of the stuff in your system tray, try and right click on each item and go to adjust properties or anything about properties for any of those icons by your system clock. Most of the items shown will allow you to disable them from being shown in the system tray. If you want to further explore your chances at getting rid of some of the stuff in the system tray then do this:
Go to your Documents and Settings folder in your Local Disk and click on each User folder/Start Menu/Programs/Start Up folder...You will notice that most of the items that are placed near your system clock in the system tray are located in that Start Up folder. Just delete any icon you feel you don't want to be in your system tray at start up.
