I am running win2k server. There is a folder uploaded by someone on one of our machines through FTP. I can't access the folder. The computer freezes if I try to access it by clicking on it. I tired deleting it from command prompt using rd/s/q opmmand (by restarting in command prompt mode) but I cannot. It shows the directory hierarchy and then says file not found..cannot be deleted. I know the best thing is to format the machine as it might have a back door entry but we are in the middle of a very busy period and I cannot format it as of now. Also, I have a firewall recently installed and only traffic from inside the network is being allowed on the machine now. Is there any program that will force delete the folder for me. How do I get rid of it? It is taking space up on the machine.

Try this out... run WINNT32.exe /CMDCONS to install the recovery console. From there you should be able to jump out to a dos-like prompt. The link below gives some more details...
Is this any different from starting up windows only with command prompt? I tried deleting the file like that and I also tried starting in safe mode and deleting it. Is the way described above more effective than the others?
what kind of firewall try a differnt one Like zonealarm. Or you can maybe change it to where no body can share it. But the administrator. doing that by right clicking on it. maybe right click wont freeze it who knows. a more hardcore appoarch would be to unplug the network. And stop all services and then with a dos bootable floppy at start up delete the folder. Through dos.
