Comment:
i have just installed a second hard drive on my pc. It is not being recognised however by the computer only in cmos menu. I have not however formatted this drive and not sure if it has been done. Please could you tell me how i can do this in bios. When i put this hard drive as the master and not the slave it boots until it reaches a sceen saying something about a "read error". Could this be because i have not formated it. Can i format it by installing a OS on the harddrive and booting form a startup disk to start with. I have never installed a 2nd hard drive before only a master one so this is all new to me.

Cheers

Right click My Computer> Manage> Disk management> Select the new disk and follow the prompts. I would recommend you format using the same file system as the other drive.

Best to follow the method OtheHill says.

If you want to switch the two as master and slave, boot with 2kPro disk after switching.

That way you can copy & paste all of your files afterwards.

You need to put the new hard drive as slave and turn on your computer so that you can boot ibto whatever OS that you have. When you are booted up and can see your desktop screen then you need to open IE explorer and click on the new hard drive right click on it and selecse format.
You can then put what ever you want on this new hard drive. You can not make it a master until you install an OS.
Peace!
