Anytime you upgrade IE it will default to MSN. However you should be able to change it to whatever you want.

Are you going to altavista first and clicking on "use current"?

What exactly does happen? Are you closing IE and when returning to IE the home page is now MSN?

What exact verion of IE are you running? Look under help> about IE in IE to find that info.

You have always been able to reset the home page in the past. How often and long has this problem persisted?

Have you tried setting the homepage to something other than altavista? Try Yahoo.com for instance.

Your EXACT version or IE (not MSN) isn't 6. It MAY be a 6 followed by more. Post the Exact version. find it as I described above. I'm trying to determine if you have the latest version of IE for Win2000.

It sounds from your last response that you haven't EVER successfully gotten Altavista to stay as the homepage. I think you may simply be doing things wrong.

Try this, open IE and using the address bar open the AltaVista homepage. While at the altavista homepage go to Tools> Internet options> click on the "use current" button. That should have changed the address in the box to Altavista and you should still be viewing the Altavista home page. Now click the apply button then the OK button.

Now close IE and reopen. Altavista homepage should be showing.

ie version 6.0.2800.1106

problem started yesterday

have always been able to reset homepage to altavista before yesterday

a sidenote: i run noadware to protect against spyware - when i change homepages it always asks for confirmation - i click yes - as soon as i close ie (after changing to altavista) the noadware confirmation box comes up automatically and says "an attempt is being made to change my homepage back to MSN" and it will not accept "no" as an answer, just keeps popping up until i agree - by the way homepage automatically goes back to MSN even when noadware is disabled, and noadware has never affected changing homepages in the past

i have tried opening altavista and selecting use current button several times, but to no avail

Have you installed any new programs in the last few days?

I use Adaware SE or 2007 and Spybot Search & Destroy 1.4. Find both at the link below. After installing, update both before running. Spybot has an immunize feature. This will block all sites in their database. Read how to use it and do so.
