Slim,

The question you ask is a little more complicated than you think it is. Clearing history from a drive is an intense process. If you are looking to do a simple clear, the way to do it is to reformat and reinstall. That's the long and short of it. You can try to piddle around with running clear and delete commands, but you'll miss stuff and in the end, there are too many places the OS stores operational histories to effectively get them all. So-reformat and reinstall.

Also, I should mention that even the above doesn't really solve your problem if you are trying to get rid of something on your drive. Computers and OS's operate in a virtual world, but HD's exist in a physical one. The field of computer forensics is very exciting and powerful. If you are attempting to truly erase data that could be harmful to you or someone else, you might look into doing a low-level hard disk format. Some manufacturers provide utilities to accomplish this. Check with the manf of your drive.

Otherwise, the information that was on the disk before the reformat and reinstall is still there and could be recovered fairly easily with a semi-complicated forensic recovery utility.

I don't know if any of this was helpful. Long and short. . . back it up and wipe it clean.
