Comment: I have Win2000 in my ThinkPad notebook using 97-100% CPU with no applications running. A green square icon appears showing 100% CPU usage when I bring up Windows Task Manager. The process using all the CPU is the System. The System Idle Process shows 0% CPU usage, and the only other process getting CPU is the Task Manager at about 1%. I’ve run Norton AV, Trend Micro AV, Ad-Ware, Spybot, Norton SystemWorks Utilities, defrag, and uninstalled and re-installed numerous applications with no luck reducing the System CPU usage. I only use a 56K phone line to connect to AOL, and I’m barely limping along in this situation. I’d appreciate any recommendations on how to reduce the CPU usage. Thanks!

Reply: (edit)Folks; I found the problem. I had downloaded a T45xi print driver from HP, as initially they did not have the CD available for Win2K. When I uninstalled the downloaded driver, the Win2K high CPU utilization problem went away. I had used an HP tool to check the downloaded driver, and it reported OK. I also ordered the CD for Win2K when I saw it was available, but had not used it since the downloaded driver allowed me to print. Unfortunately, I've tried several times to use the CD I purchased from HP for the printer, and I still cannot get the printer to work now... However, I'll work that problem through another help channel... Thanks for the pointers on this forum -- I use them for solving my problems....
