Comment:

Is it possible to hide the icon from the desktop?

I made it a blank icon and renamed it as a single space to make it 'invisible', but that screws up when I view files using Windows Explorer.

Can I just ditch the icon?

Run a search in google.com for:

how to hide my computer icon

and you'll get assorted input.

There are some add-in utils that allow it; and there are some (essentially limited) tweaks/fudges.

By doing the search yourself means you have them all to read, and saves me duplicating them here.

if you enable active desktop, right click on the screen and under active desktop there is a place were you can hide desktop icons.
