Yes you can download it from somewhere but that constituts an illegal action which is not allowed on this site. You can legaly purchase it from just about any computer store though.

256megs is enough but 512 would be better. It really depends on what you do with your computer.

Well, regardless of where he downloads it from, it won't be "on" this site. So why don't we all stay off our high horses and answer whatever legitimate questions he may have. Let him deal with the moral implications of whatever illegal actions he decides to take (or not take).

Besides, I don't think he was asking about illegal downloads. Many Windows upgrades are available as free downloads. It's not unreasonable that somebody might be confused as to why "Windows 2000 Service Pack 4" is a free download and "Windows XP" is not, for example.

Jose, Windows XP is a separate operating system from Windows 2000. You must obtain an installation CD; you cannot download Windows XP as an upgrade from Microsoft. Upgrading from Win2k to XP should be fairly straightforward. If you have any specific questions, post back and I'm sure someone will be able to answer them.

That being said, any "bugs and problems" you are having with your current operating system are likely to just be carried over to the new operating system if you upgrade. You would be better off trying to fix the problems you are having, rather than trying to make them go away by upgrading. I'm sure somebody can help with that too.

just a quick personal experience with this same procedure. i had win2000pro installed and wanted to install xp. when installing it didn't ask me anything about adding a second operating system. after installation i found out that i now had two os and only wanted to install over win2000.

i ended up haveing to fdisk my hd and i was able to install xp without an additional os.

i would also suggest to back up all information you desire to keep and go ahead and fdisk to assure me scenerio doesn't happen to you. i know this will entail reinstalling all your programs and updating all your drivers, re-setting-up all your personal settings, and so on.

i personally have been running win2000 pro since its release and haven't had any problems with anything related to this program. don't know why you have problems. i know others that visit krak and bootleg sites that contract viruses and spyware and all of the like, and they seem to have more problems than me. ????? who really knows.

good luck.
