hi, left my pc on overnite scanning for viruses but wen woke up i discovered win2k has rebooted, and a few apps were trying to access the internet (being blocked by ZA and awaiting me to click Yes or No). i disallowed access for those apps, one of them being WebHan (or Webhandler, don remember exactly) and a couple more like TVM or Net.something..
so i did a thorough spyware/adware scan and removed 40 odd from the system. i also cleared TVM, WebHan and net.something from the startup list.
did a second scan to make sure everything is cleared, rebooted and i don see WebHan, etc asking to connect to internet anymore.
but, my internet connection has died. Zonealarm recorded an ip alien to me, IE can't browse, and i can't even access my router's menu from IE.
i tried ipconfig and it shows the alien IP and also "Connection-specific DNS Suffix" is blank. i tried ipconfig /release and renew and it says "All Adapters bound to DHCP do not have DHCP addressess. The addresses were automatically configured and can not be released"
with limited IT knowledge, i've tried wat i know. how do i proceed from here, ur input is much appreciated.
thanks.
PS: my machine is dual-booting win2k and winxp, in winXP everything works fine, so i know it's not my cable or the router's fault. i discovered the WebHan (and others) in win2k and now it's the win2k dat can't connect to net.
thanks again.

hi all,
problem fixed!thx to a fren, he suggested it cld be some spyware dat i removed (webhan or watever) dat's causing the problem. winsock is screwed. told me to google for winsockfix and run it.
i did just that and presto! problem fixed.
