I am trying to boot from a drive off another machine. I built a new machine and just want to boot from the old drive from the old machine. I can not do a reformating because I have apps on the drive which cannot be backed up. any help would be appreciated very much. It just to a blue screen when it attemps to boot. I have removed all extras from the drive and left bare minimums..but no luck. HELP!

I guees you mean that the drive has w2000 installed, since you're in the w2000 forum.

You can not put a drive with installed w2000 in another box and have it boot unless the boxes are identical.

If at first you don't succeed, you're about average.

You could try an over-the-top repair install, if I am right in assuming you took a hard drive out of another PC as opposed to remote booting:

You obviously have use of another computer. Why not just piggy-back the old drive and copy the data you want to the machine you used to post this message?

you will have nothing but trouble if you want to set the HD from another machine to boot. Different drivers and configurations etc.

you can however set the jumper to slave and copy the data you wish to save to another HD or burn it to CD to transfer back once you have fdisked and reformatted the old drive.
