Here is most of the story -- http://www.computing.net/windows2000/wwwboard/forum/32728.html -- but i'll break it down again.
This problem only occurs in 2k, im using dual boot and get no problems in win98. I install 2k, 4in1's, then when I attempt to install the Nvid drivers for my GeForce, it doesn't detect the card at all. I get "Wizard found new drivers for device: Video Controler (VGA Compatible)" instead of "Wizard found new drivers for device: GeForce4 Ti4200".
If I go ahead w/ the driver installation, or use setup.exe type of driver installation, win2k gets f---ed. It starts freezing while Loading 2k, or if i even make it to the desktop, if i right click or hit start it will freeze.
I did everything I can possible think of from IRQ's -> BOIOS.
It's not the hardware b/c it works in 98 and I tried my old Video card, and its the same problem, I tried BIOS things such as AGP 2x,4x,Apature Size, Fast write, Sidebanging. I messed with all those, and it didn't help 1 bit. I thought maybe it was an IRQ conflict, I tried taking out all my pci cards and installing the video card alone, didn't work. tried switching from APCI (sp) to Standard PC etc etc. I can't think of anything. (I tried various Drivers & 4in1's also, yet the problem presists) -- and remember, I dont encounter this at all on win98.PLEASE HELP
