Subject: help me with DNS OS: win2000 and xpCPU/Ram: 1.8ghz ,256 ram |
Comment: Hi my name is "Lee" and i'm an IT supervisor at "Aishti". I need some help if anyone can offer it to me. i have a accounting and sales program developed on oracle 8i THAT USE a specific DNS ADDRESS (EX: 192.168.121.22 local IP address of my server) on my network to authenticate the account and priviliges of the cashiers). And i need at the same time to be able to access the internet so i have to enter a different DNS number 212.90.130.34/35.( THE DNS OF MY internet PROVIDER). sO WHEN I PUT THEM TOGHETHER, AND MY LOCAL DNS(192.168..) AS PRIMARY dns, MY PROGRAM WORKS CORRECTLY ,but i have no access to the internet. if i put the DNS of the provider first i will be able to access the internet but and my program won't work again. i can't access the internet unless i remove the local dns from my configuration. i'm encountering this problem on win2000 professional and Winxp but in win 98 everything works fine , i can access the internet and work with my program on my network. My network configuration is set as a domain and every computer is member of it.i'm not using any proxy server or isa server. SO please if anyone can help me with this i'll be more than thankful. Best Regards, Lee.

Reply: (edit)You may be able to set the cashiers DNS server to forward requests outside that DNS zone to the ISP DNS. If you haven't tried that, give it a go and see if that doesn't kill both birds with one stone (so to speak)
