Subject: Help! How can I connect a Garmin GPS to
Comment:

I have purchased a Compaq Presario Laptop 1200, that for some reason does NOT have a serial port. It only has 2 USB ports and a Card slot [pcmcia].
I want to connect my Garmin E trek GPS device that has a serial port cable.

Is it possible to get some sort of adapter? I contacted Compaq and they were not helpful, just saying that 'yes it can be done but we cant advise you how!'

I want to use the GPS with Microsoft Autoroute software but here lies another potential problem, if a convertor cable exists. In the software to enable GPS suport one has to select the com port that the device is using, How can i do this if it is using a USB port?

Please Advise
