Hello,

I am new to windows 2000 and am having problems already... not good!

Internet explorer was deleted from the system using a third party uninstaller and messed up the operating system. I have since installed IE6 in an effort to fix the problem but am having errors in doing this. I managed to install and reach the rebooting stage and then after I reboot the laptop..... I get an error message during the system update. During the setup of the browsing tools after rebooting there is an error message about some memory address that the system is unable to read from... something to do with explorer.exe I think?? I reboot again and the system carries on with the update and finishes. Then when I try opening some folders like program files folder or control panel folder I get a scripting error message and then a second message saying : "An error has occured in this dialogue. Error 29. Unspecified error."

How can this be fixed?

Please reply here and if possible via email aswel. Thankyou all.

fdisk ??? thats a little extreme, use fdisk only as the absolute last resort. Try to re-install or repair the install of win2k. It sounds like the third party program hosed up some system files or dll's. Get the win2k os running first then figure out the ie prob, which will prob require it to be re-installed as well.

IE is integrated and part of the windows system and cannot be removed. To satisfy my curiosity I also tried to uninstall IE from Windows XP and the system was hosed, likely in XP you can revert the process.
Your best alternative would be to reinstall Windows and select "Repair". If this doesn't work then you will have to reinstall it completly.

Good luck
