Subject: HD removal problems with W2k Serv
Comment:

Hi; I am running W2k serv with a RAID drive on an ABIT KT7 motherboard. I am having some problems with the hard drives on the regular IDE channel sort of spontaneously ejecting. One minute they are there and the next windows says "hey, why did you pull that hard drive out?". Then both of the regular IDE drives are gone. Not a big deal since w2k is on the RAID drive.

I thought the best solution to this would be to remove one of the HDs on the IDE channel. I still need at least one for win98 should I ever need it. Plus the regular IDE drive is where I keep backup data since I don't have the mirrored type of RAID.

When I remove the drive (slave drive on the IDE channel) and reboot w2k tells me that a hard drive necessary for windows to run is not present and it won't load up. Keep in mind that this hard drive is blank.

I suspect that this is a problem with the boot.ini but I am unsure how to fix it.

Thanks,

Justin Collum
