We have a windows 2000 server with a total of 4GB. After installing all the needed softwares, we are left with about 1GB. Lately, we have notice that our disk space is decreasing. As of now, it is showing about 30mb of space. I've run disk cleanup, removed all the temp files and logs, defrage the system and was only able to get an additional 10-15mb. Softwares other then the windows 2000 installed on this system is just Symantec Antivirus Corporate, Watchguard System Manager and Spybot Search and Destroy. What else could be taking up these disk space? Could it be windows update?

This is causing an issue with updating our antivirus...

Any thoughts on what can be causing this?

4gig of disk space is not enough for OS and apps. Get yourself a larger hard drive. Anything you may do now won't make a difference in disk space in a month or less.

Imagine the power if you knew how to internet search

Thanks wanderer,
I wish it could be that easy to get another HD... it's not my call, I'm just the lucky tech who has to figure out how to free up space...

Maybe if I have a good enough reason, my boss will buy the new drive...

If I said, windows update is using up the disk space, he'll say, disable windows update... If i said, it's the log file from symantec, he'll say, delete the files...

Yeap, this guy is real cheap... Unless I come up with a better reason...

Ask him if his data is worth more than $50. Better yet ask him how much his data is worth and his ability to use the server. Get him to put a dollar figure to it.

Darn the $50 drive sold out so now its $85. Still cheap.
