I just bought a maxtor 160gig hard drive and it came with a contoller card, i allready have two hard drives, a Dvd and Cd-Rw drives.I'm Trying to hook the third maxtor 160gig.
Everything was going well but it only detects 137gig, i tried other jumper settings(found 2 jumper settings that work, cable select enabled and 4092 cylinder limit)and installing the maxblast 2 software, but it says tht it can only be installed on the main controller card(on the motherboard). anyone have any ideas what i'm doing wrong?

Most likely a BIOS limitation as many have a problem with over 125GB

Have you flashed your BIOS to the latest rev? May want to look at rev. history to find out if any update for your MB includes support for very large disks.

Good luck

The bios on your motherboard calculates the sizes of your harddrives. Chris is probably right about your motherboard having problems with drives that size. You might try installing ez-bios which may allow your bios to see the whole drive. It should be in the help files with the software that shipped with your Harddrive. 137 gigs out of 160 is not bad.........if you dont need the missing 23 gigs......just let it go and use the drive the way it is.

Thank you guys on your replies.

I tried finding an upgrade for my Bios but i allready have the latest version, the pci controller card that came with the hard drive says it has a bios built in.So when I first boot up I see my bios then another for the card. Then Manual says that in order to use the hard drive to its fullist,to use the card.
But Like Undo said said, I can live with the 137gigs, only theres another problem.
I have a dual boot system"win me and Win 2000, on win me all the drives show up except for the win 2000, becasue its formatted in ntfs, but in win 2000 i'm still missing the new 160gig hard drive, i've tried uninstalling and installing again but that didn't work either.
Also I've tried partition Magic 6, and it keeps giving me crc error45 in win2000 and crc error #50 under win me.
In the Properties for the hard drives(my computer under win 2000)the maxtor 160 is in there under hardware. Anyone have any idea how to get the drives to show?
