Comment: I am running Win2000 and need to partition my hard drive but cannont create enough space at the end of the drive using the defrag tool due to hidden/system files. Can anyone tell me how to move these files to the beginning of the drive with everything else? Thanks in advance.

Reply: (edit)NO -- just tell us what it is you need to do and someone like "Undo" will help. If you need to repartition a drive then many will respond -- or is your interest in having data shifted to a perticular section of your HDD more important? Please be more clear.

Reply: (edit)Hi Mark, Look over to the left of this window and you will see a list --- look for "HOWTOS' click on it and then look for "CLICK HERE FOR ADVANCED HOW TOS" and then look for the instruction for repartitioning.

Reply: (edit)Thanks for those replies. To be more clear as requested, I need to split my existing sole partition into three partitions, while hopefully retaining Windows 2000 on one of those three partitions and not formatting the whole hard drive (last resort option!). I have a program which will partition the hard drive(15Gb) (without losing any info) but at the moment this program will only partition it with 13Gb and 2Gb and wont split the 13Gb partition (that which contains Win2000) any further. The reason for this as I understand it, is that there are hidden files towards the end of the partition which can't be moved to the start of the partition using defrag. If they could be moved to the start it would free up space to enable further partitioning. Hence I'm wondering is there a way to move these files to the start of the partition. I hope this is clearer. Again, thanks in advance.

Reply: (edit)You can partition your HD from within Win2k if you have free unallocated space. Go to Windows Explorer, control panel, Aministrative Tools, Computer Management, Storage, Disk Management, then right click on your "C" drive and select "Create partition". Pretty simple, really.
