Hard Drive Cannot be Found

OS: windows 2000
CPU/Ram: 1ghz 512 ram

I recently installed win2k pro on a new 20.4 gig Maxtor Athena hd . it worked great no probs but i woke up and turned on the pc and the hd could not be found. i truied everything i could think of includeing hand setting the hd size in the bios . Anyone have any ideas?

Go back into your bios settings and then set the IDE 0 settings back to auto instead of manually setting them, then be sure to press "enter" to detect the drive. I had a similar problem on a client's drive and that was all it was. Also, make sure the jumper settings on the hard drive are set to "master" if it's the only drive you have, some systems don't like the "cable select" function. Some hard drives come set that way. Hope that helps.

Tried that did not work , will find the hd with no jumpers set but will not find it set as master or as cable select. says no fixed disks present when try to fdisk . going nutz lol.

Make sure your cd drive is not on the same chain or that there is not another type (33, 66, etc) of hd on the chain.
