hang-up on

Comment:
I had a hang on "checking NVRAM" on an ECS mobo, a 1.3GHz Athlon chip and a Trident video card. I was running 256 Mb of SDRAM and had changed the BIOS CPU speed to 133/133. It continually froze on the NVRAM check. I pulled the jumper to discharge the BIOS memory and replaced it, then restored defaults. It works fine now. The problem apparently occurred because of the memory. The Windows 2000 OS will limit the processor or something to that effect...so I am told by an experienced professional. The chip runs at 1GHz which is OK for now because the computer isn't being pushed to its limits by any means. I'm under the impression that the chip will reach its full capacity if I add more RAM.
