hi, when i logon using the built-in guest username (no password assigned) and make some settings changes, for eg move som icons on the desktop, add some shortcuts to start menu, change mouse cursor speed etc etc.. all these settings dont save after i log off and log back on again.

don't have this porblem with tthe admin logon, only this guest account. it's as if i'm starting to use the guest username for the first time every logon.. all previous settings made were lost.

any suggestions? thanks..

thats the way the guest set up is supposed to be buddy...

its for a guest who doesnt have access to that computer... its so the user cannot change or cause problems to the computer...

Now you can change it if you would like too..

You can change it to a Power user group Instead of a guest

My computer> Control Panel> Users and Passwords> Guest > Properties > Group Membership (tab)> There are 3 options. Standard user. Restricted user and Other> Go to Other and change it to a Power user...

Power user is the most commonly one used.. it gives the user enough rights to change desktop settings ect... but you cant make harmful things to the computer..

now.. you can create a power user (limited rights) but they can change settings like you want.

oh! silly me.. so that's why. thanks for your fast reply. you're right, guest is not supposed to make changes to it.. :)

ok, i'm going to change it to power user, make the necessary changes (mouse speed too slow!!), then can i change it back to Guest group?

will the settings stick or the settings will revert back to default Guest settings?

ah.. i'm gonna go try anyway.

thanks again.

lol mitch... sorry i spoke too soon. it didnt work :(

here's wat i discovered:

after chaning power user back to Guest group, i login as guest, then:

1. logoff, login admin, logoff admin, login guest, the settings stick! (which is waht i tested earlier)

BUT:

2. logoff, login guest, logoff guest, login guest, the settings reset back to the default guest' settings.... uggh

oh bloody welllll... guest i'll sti.. i mean, guess i'll stick with power user. i will have to poke around in the group policy settings to disable other stuffs.. like disable th windows key, for eg. sigh*
