I received one of those automated updated notices from MS and clicked on it. The notice announced: SECURITY UPDATE FOR MS DATA ACCESS COMPONENTS (KB832483) 2.0MB. As with previous updates, I clicked on Express Install and received the message, "Updates are being installed," and within half a minute, "Installation Complete." Now return to the start of this message and reread. Then repeat this action six times and you'll know what I have been up against. So how do I determine whether this security update ever got installed, and perhaps more significant... how can I get this particular security update notice to stop banging on the door to my laptop?

You can check to see if the update was installed by going to Control panel> add/ remove programs. Be sure that the box for "show updates" is checked. If the update is shown there maybe the best course of action would be to remove it there and download and install again. Possibly didn't register the install.
