Ghost Removable Disk Drives

I "removed" a CF card from my USB reader without "stopping" it. Now I have 4 removable disc drives showing in My Computer instead of 1---only one of these is real. How do I delete the other 3? I suppose this is a registry problem.

I have the same problem with XPSP2. A ghost drive F: that was attached to an external disk during a systems crash. When i recovered it became G: whilst its Ghost F: is still there (empty)?
