Comment:

I want to GHOST my old HDD(it has win 98) and put the image file onto the new HDD with windows 2000 pro. I am trying to do this because the old HDD has a lot of accounting software and client files on it. So Im trying to transfer everything over from a P3 500mhz 10gig 98 HDD to a P4 2.8 dual 80gig win 2000 pro HDD. First off is this possible.

Thanks

If you just copy the Ghost image file to the new hard drive you can use Ghost 2003 to open the file and recover the Data in the file and not go through the problems of dual boot. Ghost will allow you to extract the data you need only.

No matter how you do it the programs will not copy from the W98 image and run on the W2K system. All programs must be installed one at a time to work. You can copy the data files from the Ghost image, but do not waste time trying to copy the programs themselves. The W98 installs had information stored in the W998 registry, this can not be copied into the W2K registry. I use Ghost to backup client drives and then copy the data/docs back to the freshly built system.
Good luck

Richard

if you install win2000 in fat partition, you can dual boot your systems.

only if you are willing to go into the bios each time and set the 10gig drive as the boot drive. You will not be able to multiboot under this configuration.
