Subject: GF2 Problems... again!!
Comment:

I have:

Geforce2 (ASUS V7700 Pro)
Athlon 1ghz
256mb ram
Abit KT7a-Raid (with latest 4in1s)
and am running windows 2000 (SP2)

O...K... I posted earlier this week about my GF2 problems. Even with all the correct settings, and installing new drivers properly (cleaning files, lots of reboots and stuff :) ) I still had major problems with my GF2.

Basically, I was getting major performance problems, so I checked it out in 3dmark2001, and got a pretty crap ~1000 points. So.. after trying for ages, I decided to format and I got good performance again, and ~3000 points. But... later on after installing a few programs, and new GF2 drivers (I installed them properly, dammit, using the geforcefaq.com instructions! ), my performance went right down again, and noone could help me.

But now, I think I've narrowed down the problem... Me and a mate checked all the nvidia registry entries and so far we have it nailed down to something to do with the reboot.. After I've uninstalled the GF2 driver, cleaned out all the nvidia files, and am running the default VGA driver I installed the GF2 drivers... as they dont need a reboot I thought I'd try 3dmark2001 there and then and BANG! it worked, I got 3000 points again! But then, I rebooted and BANG! back to under 1000 points and bad performance... So we've nailed it down to something to do with the reboot. We've gone totally through the registry, compared it before and after the reboot, audited the file changes in the WINNT directory, and still nothing...

So its something to do with the reboot... if anyone can help, *please* post. (And remember I have the latest 4in1 drivers, and the 4.05c GART driver so dont bother posting about those :) )

Oh, and here's comparing before and after reboot: http://www.fragmental.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/help.htm

Its not between the same reboot (you can see different driver versions) but i get the same results... Hope you can help, thanks

The only version of 3dmark2001 that I could find, only works in Win 95/98. Maybe that has something to do with your results.

Have you tried downloading the latest nvidia reference detenator 3 drivers from www.nvidia.com? they now have full ms certification, and appear to work fine.
