This really p***ed me off!! I'm blaming it on that stupid program. Can anyone tell me how to remove it for good, because i go in the add/remove programs section and it's not there. Reply: (edit)I got it too!! #$$%*$#%($$ I used Eraser 5.3 from- http://www.tolvanen.com/eraser/ - You'll probably have to go back to 'XTSearch.dll' in the 'Updates' file, several times until it's not in use anymore. But the rest should be gone the first time. Check 'Find','Files and Folders' to make sure. I use Eraser to get rid of most everything (use Guttman) that 'Delete' isn't secure enough for; or for things like this that don't uninstall well. 'RegVac'- www.regvac.com is another useful tool that I use, and recommend highly. I hope this helps.

Reply: (edit)I dunno what you guys are talking about...but I got the thing and followed everyones steps in how to get rid of it, even some from other pages. What it does to me isnt any annoying little pop-up...it freezes my box and whenever i run the various scanners (Anti-virus, anti-spy, anti-trojan...ect) sure it finds the xupiter s--- but whenever it does it freezes my comp. At least I got it to boot up this time. Usually freezes on the boot screen. Oh, and it also tore chuncks in my registry. Yes, you think I haven't thought of reinstalling my OS and formating? Of course I have, BUT I CANT CAUSE IT FREEZES b4 I CAN START THE NEW INSTALL OR FORMAT!!!

Reply: (edit)I have Windows XP and did a System Restore to a date that I thought was before I downloaded KAAZA, which by the way, I NEVER installed. So far it's good and gone. I'm way too afraid to mess with the System Registry, so, for all of the other novices with XP, try System Restore first.

Reply: (edit)I just found (on this site) the answer. Go to the tools above and then 'internet options'. Then the advanced tab scroll down to the browser section and unclick the 'enable third party browser extensions'. After this, close your browser, and restart. Go into windows explorer and program files and delete the Xupiter files.

Reply: (edit)I had loaded a number of programs, including Grokster, that weather monitor pop up ( argh ) and installed from disk a program to print lables for my CDs. Not sure at all where I got xupiter but it really messed my XP up. I couldnt get my email AND I was totally unable to do a system restore. It only allowed me to go back one month and wouldnt restore a single date. I couldnt scan with my Norton even after buying a Norton 2003 version. I ended up calling Dell and getting help reformatting. Now, Im not sure if a file is totally corrupted, but I still can't download updated dat files from Norton, but I can scan now. Im hoping that whatever xupiter corrupted hasn't permanently damaged a file that couldnt be reformatted. Any ideas on this?? Am going to reinstall Norton 2003 again and see whats up. Xupiter is a Virus plain and simple. I am going to write to Norton and have them check it out and add it to dat files, if I can ever get the danged things. Thanks all you guys for the advice here. I got this site too late after reformatting, but will continue to check the site. Your help is very much appreciated by us who are not so computer literate.

Reply: (edit)I have a funny question ? How do I install the damn thing (ie. XupiterToolbar) ? My company has a web application and this toolbar is creating a lot of error in our application. When somebody is using our application in IE browser with that toolbar installed, the toolbar queries our app with an invalid HTTP request (this all done without the user noticing). In order to know how Xupiter does that, I need to install it. Can somebody tell how and where I can get it ? I went to Xupiter.com, but did not find it. Thanks, Steve

Reply: (edit)Using win98, I found that suddenly, I could not open windoze explorer, my computer, or any folder that would open a list of anything on my drive. I tried to delete xupiter, (having found that the page fault was looking to xustartup.dll or somthing like that.) I deleted as much as I could. Still no fix. Then, I thought to use ctrl+alt+delete to bring up my CLOSE PROGRAM dialog, then stopped the two xupiter exes listed. Deleted them. Rebooted. Viola! No problems.

Reply: (edit)You can uninstall the Xupiter by going to the following website: http://www.xupiter.com/uninstall/ It is an automatic uninstall and it works. Only thing is you need to restart the computer after it is uninstalled.

Reply: (edit)for those who were wary of xupiter's own uninstall at their site - your instinct was correct. here's what i got off http://home1.gte.net/johnfull/n230.htm ------ First confirm that you have Xupiter by Start>Run> msconfig .. look under the startup tab and see if it is running. Unchecking the box will have no effect because Xupiter just reloads itself at boot. GOING to Xupiter.com and using the uninstaller is also useless because all the uninstaller does is disable to tool bar, but leave the program intact and spyware running. -------- removal info is there - great site.

Reply: (edit)First go to startmenu and run "regedit". It's a good idea to take backup whenever you mess with the registry, go to the register-tab and export registerfile. The run a search from the edit-tab. Type xup in the search window. When you get a hit, rightclick on the file under names (big window-right) and press edit or alter. If it says xupiter, delete the folder where the file was found. press F3 to search again and repeat the steps. Xupiter has files all over the registry, so this may take a while. When you're done, Reboot, then delete the xupiter folder in programs/xupiter or run a search on your computer and delete whatever you find with xu in it. Then start mailbombing xupiter. Merry X.

Reply: (edit)Xupiter works by hiding a bug. You can't get rid of Xupiter without first finding and deleting the bug. If you have windows: 1. Open the registry from the Start menu by clicking Run and typing “regedit.” 2. Highlight the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder and rightclick. Select "find" from the list. Under "find what," enter "Xupiter." Locate and delete the files indicated. (The bug, incidentally, is the file that doesn't have the word "Xupiter" in the title. That's how they hide it.) 3. Highlight the HKEY_CURRENT_USER folder and rightclick. Select "find" from the list. Under "find what," enter "Xupiter." Locate and delete the files indicated. 4. Close the registry and delete the Xupiter folder under C:/Program Files. 5. Restart.

Reply: (edit)Ever since I reformatted I seem to have no problems with Xupiter. At least in front of my nose. There seems to be something still different about my machine, but I cannot put a finger on it. Im passing this site on to everyone I know to watch and see what transpires. I figured post #16 might be too good to be true, so lets keep watching the fixes and see what happens. Those of you who are using the above steps, let us know if you are doing alright afterwards. And send mail to your virus scan--I still say this is almost as bad as a virus and should be treated as such.

Reply: (edit)Xupiter should be sued. And/Or owner(s) shot. To remove, other than going to their site. Their tool does not clean the registry. Go to PROGRAMS menu and kill all files in the The Xupiter folder Note: it will not let you kill the "XTUpdate.dll" in the Update folder, more on that later. Now to edit the registry: Start:Run: type "regedit":OK:Edit:Find: type Xupiter:F3 to search (use F3 for each searh). Highlight and select Delete on the Keys thet contain Xupiter. A key will look like this - {6CD973BL63510827E....}. But USE Extreme Caution. Sometimes it is in a key with many other items,.. in that case just kill the line that contains Xupiter. Now go back to the program files. Drag the Update folder in the Xupiter folder to another folder. Now you can delete the Xupiter folder. Go to your moved Update folder and rename the "XTUpdate.dll" file to anything different. Open Internet browser, go to Tool:Internet Options, Delete displayed link (likely still Xupiter) reset your start page (or use blank)select Apply. Close the reopen browser to verify Xupiter doesn't show up. Reboot : Delete that moved Update folder. It's now completely gone. Hope this detail helps.

Reply: (edit)I agree with Maki, the persons responsible for Xupiter should be shot.....several times! I used the uninstall from the Xupiter website which only deleted the toolbar. I then ran a "find" on both the 'C' drive and in "regedit". I found additional Xupiter files. I deleted them and it seemed to have worked. Xupiter sucks!

Reply: (edit)Go here to manually remove it: http://www.freelists.org/archives/pctechtalk/12-2002/msg00190.html First I did what Rick said, but I don't know if that helped or not...But here is what happened when I tried deleting it. I couldn't get rid of the XTSearch.dll since it gave me the error "File is in use by Windows" which realllly made me mad when I tried deleting it. But using that in 2 mins I deleted it.
