Comment:

I have a Server running Windows 2000 Server with SP3.

Server will hang with preparing network connections.
-Safe mode same problem.
-Safe mode without network connection login sucessfully
-Found disabling the one of the two network card will login successfully.

Here is the network info, with one card connected to broadband and another to connect to the intranet:

LAN/Private Network/100MBit PCI NIC -Users are connected to this NIC /Domain/Active Directory/RRAS(NAT)
LAN Properties:
IP 192.168.0.82
SM 255.255.255.0
GW 192.168.0.1
DNS: 61.9.192.14
DNS Suffix: nsw.bigpond.net.au

ADSL/Public Network/OEM 1 GBit NIC
ADSL Properties:
IP 192.168.0.2
SM 255.255.255.0
GW 192.168.0.1
DNS 192.168.0.1
DNS Prefix: ellfield.com

Router/ADSL Modem: IGBit Link /PPOE
IP 192.168.0.1
SM 255.255.255.0
PRI DNS 61.9.192.14
SEC DNS: 61.9.192.15

There is still heaps of errors in the system log every 2-3 seconds with ID 5774 Source Netlogon:

Registration of the DNS record 'ellfield.com. 600 IN A 192.168.0.82' failed with the following error:
DNS server unable to interpret format.

One notably with ID 20106 Source RemoteAccess.

Unable to add the interface Internal with the Router Manager for the IP protocol. The following error occurred: The parameter is incorrect.

Anyone had any clue on this problem or any comments on the IP setup of all the NICs and broadband?

I have some techs who had suggested that it is very unwise to setup the two NICS within the server in the same subnet as 2K will have major prolems with it. Anyone with any clue?

Well, I would definately check that out first. Try disabling one of the NIC's for the LAN and see what happens.

The problem is probably because your primary dns server is not itself, if you have Active Directory installed then you must have DNS running, your secondary dns server can be the ISP's but the first must be itself, in your case 192.168.0.82, this should be done in your TCP/IP properties for your main nic.

help!, I have a similar problem aswell.
The only way the win2000 server will start up is if I remove client for ms networks
but then you can't access the server form the lan.
