I'm trying to format my C: drive using Win2000, in the DOS command, typing format c:

When I ok the warning, I get a message which says: "Format cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Format may run if the volume is dismounted first. ALL OPENED HANDLES TO THE VOLUME WOULD THEN BE INVALID. Would you like to force a dismount on this volume? Y/N"

When you press Y, you get: "Cannot lock drive, volume in use".

Does anyone know why this might be coming up? All I've got installed is a SCSI card, M Audio sound card and a Geforce graphics card.

Alternativel, does anyone know how to uninstall Windows 2000 completely without formatting the hard drive?

So, you boot using a Win 98 floppy, I take it you mean the boot disk.

And then what? You get a list of 3 options: Setup Win 98, Start computer with CDrom support and Start computer without CDrom support. What is the next step, please?

I don't want to install Win 98 over the top on 2000, I need to get rid of 2000 completely.

Because Win2000 isn't very good for running music applications and MIDI. Windows 98 is the best for that kind of thing. XP is good but not all the Soft/Hardware supports it at the moment, and it's a bit long getting all the drivers sorted.
