I will be really interested to see what response this gets. I have a very similar problem when I attempt to upgrade my XP Home to XP Pro. After loading the initial files, the machine reboots and says it cannot detect the hard drive which is a SATA like yours. I have a suspicion you may need something like a SCSI driver or similar loaded first but I'm not sure. Rgds. Bob Mitchell.

You do, you require the SATA drivers and during a normal install, you put those in when it says "Press F6 to install SCSI drivers". You'll have to download the drivers from the HDD manufacturers web site. I'm thinking you'll have to create a bootdisk with the drivers if you want to format the drive before installing.

Ijust found the following on the Seagate site, answers my query precisely! http://www.seagate.com/support/kb/disc/faq/sata_detect.html ooglenzl, & Curt R you were bang on! except Seagate say the drivers needed are for the SATA controller on the mobo NOT the HDD, so if you didn't get a CD with the mobo you are going to have to find them somewhere. Thanks, Bob Mitchell.

You're right Bob...my bad for not mentioning it in my previous post....the drivers are for the controller. Without those drivers the system can't see the HDD's because it can't see the controller.
I recently put together a server for a client with dual 76.4 GB SATA drives in a RAID 1 array and the drivers came on a CD with the system (an IBM xSeries server) and had to be loaded prior to starting the install and setting up the RAID.

It's too easy in this business to make a slight error. Cleverclogs here copied all the mobo drivers to the sata HDD! Duh! I will write them to a CD tonight & try again. Cheers, Bob Mitchell.
