I was wondering if there was a way to have Windows 2000 automatically log off a user who is signed in after say 15 minutes of inactivity? For example, if user jdoe is signed on locally to a W2K PC, then leaves to lunch, W2K will log him off after 15 minutes of being idle and the PC is at the W2K sign-on screen (where it says press CTRL+ALT+DEL)

The PCs all have local user accounts with no domain controller, Active Directory, etc.

The best thing to do is set the screen saver with password protect, to come on after 15mins. I dont know of any other way it can be done, but would be keen to know if you find another way.

that's not exactly what I am looking for. I thought of your suggestion as well, but this still poses a slight problem in my situation. I need the user to be totally logged off. The screen saver with the password protection locks the PC and doesn't let any other users besides the logged in one and the admins to access the PC. I am looking for something more along the lines of totally logging off and getting to the point where anyone can sign back in to the PC. Thanks for the response though.

Hello there,

I have searcht the web for you and found this:

http://download.com.com/3000-2094-10147136.html?tag=lst-0-9

You can use this program with msdos commands, so you can use "Tasks" in windows and set it to "Run this task if 15 min no interaction with the mouse or keyboard".

And this program is free.

I hope that this is your answer.

Greetings,
Harley538 from the Netherlands
