As a followup to this post:
http://www.computing.net/windows2000/wwwboard/forum/62838.html

Sometimes well after loading my system, services.exe will suddenly decide to RELoad itself. Services.exe uses 100% cpu for approximately 5 minutes CPU Time (just as it does on startup). This is usually abstract of anything I'm doing but sometimes occurs when I've restarted my router (if the internet isn't working)... Any ideas? Thanks.

Searching microsoft support, the 5 or 6 articles relating to this all directed me to simply download the latest hotfixes/ special packs, all of which I have. And still I get this error.

about some of the causes for services.exe causing high cpu usage.

just posting this link, to give an idea of what to even begin looking for,,, Other than that I couldn't begin to tell you how to go through and clean up the registry entries. and disable it enough to be able to have an anti-virus or anti-trojan scanners ,,,

Would have to go through and find out myself, Hopefully someone else may know ,and or have a better Idea of something,,,

Just in case your still keeping track of and or looking, for an answer to try and ( speed up your compouter ) Try this , In your bios,,, choose ,, Writeback instead of writethru cache,,, and ,,, Disable any caching of the system bios,, This may help the responsiveness of your computer ,,

thanks for the responses. quacked, I'm gonna give that a try.

an interesting followup -> the last time services.exe started running 100%, i ran winamp at above-normal priority which gave it about 50% cpu (services dropped to 50% cpu). To my surprise, services ran at 50% cpu and finished it's CPU usage at half the time as usual, about 2.5 minutes CPU time instead of 5 minutes.

i'm getting closer to figuring out why services.exe starts running as it again started when i reset my router (after losing my internet connection).
