Floppy Freezes up on Windows 2K

I have a Dell Dimension XPS 450 and I recently installed Windows 2000 on it. Everything worked fine for a few weeks, but recently the floppy drive began to freeze up the machine every time I went to use it. In fact the machine would not even shutoff and I had to unplug it each time.
I uninstalled and reinstalled various programs, including Norton Anti-virus and I checked the floppy drive itself to make certain it was OK. The floppy drive works fine, but continues to freeze up each time I try to access it. Any ideas as to the problem.

Well how long does it freeze? Do you have to reboot or what? Floppies are pretty slow anyway. Try updating your BIOS,but my guess is that won't much of an affect. If I were you I would just purchase a new floopy drive thats the easiest quickest solution, plus their not that expensive.

Do not update your BIOS as this has nothing to do with the BIOS. The first thing you should try is to see if the problem occurs in safemode as well as in command mode this will begin to isolate the problem. Let me know how it goes....

I did update the BIOS when I put on Windows 2000 and I installed a new Floppy, but the new floppy drive froze up as well.

If you don't plan on using your floppy drive you can disable it inside BIOS and stick with CDs.
