Flashing Cursor on Boot Up

Hello,

I just got done installing a new hard drive, after doing a disk-to-disk copy of my old hard drive. I am fairly certain of the integrity of the transfer.

But now, before the system gets to the first 2000 boot up screen, the system pauses, with the flashing cursor in the upper left hand side of a blank screen.

It would appear that 2000 hasn't even started to boot yet, and the problem lies with the MBR or the hard drive.

I am leaning towards using the Recovery Console / Repair option, but wanted to know if this will solve anything.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks much.

Pat

Did you check the bios if the new harddisk is found? Is it configured as master (not slave) on the primary IDE-channel? Are there any other drives in your system? Was your first drive partitioned and does your new drive have the same partitions?
Just a few things to check...

Aztec,

Sorry, should have included that information in initial post...

The replacement hd is the first/only drive on the primary channel. Bios does recognize and identify. And in ignorance, I am not aware if the disk-to-disk transfer copies the MBR (Presumes it does)

I do have a pci IDe controller card which has two cds and another hd all identified and presumed functional.

Hi Pat,

I'm not suggesting a solution to your
problem, but have the same problem as
you have. In my case, pc crashed during
unzipping some file I downloaded. So I
shut down my pc (not using start menu),
and it shows the same problem as you
mentioned.

I'm looking for a solution to my problem,
so if I have a working one, then I'll let you
know. I'd like you to post here or send me
an email if you find one.

Thanks.

Kyogu

Did you choose NTFS or FAT32?

Unohoo,

I formatted initially with NTFS.
