Comment:

Reinstalled w2k/sp3 after an ugly crash. Most everything works EXCEPT I cannot share files from this computer to others on the network. I can see others, but the Share tab does not show up on Explorer. MS help says to start the "Server services."

I tried that, but an error is returned

"1130 Not enough server storage is available to start this command"

I think I have both enough memory, and enough disk space. This feature was working before the crash.

Any clues to a solution would be much appreciated.

You say that the Sharing tab doesn't appear in Explorer. Is the 'File and Printer sharing for Microsoft Networks' service installed on your network connection.

To check this go into Control Panel and open Network and Dial-Up connections. Open up the properties for your network connection and you get a list of components used by this connection. To enable sharing of files/folders the 'File and Printer sharing for Microsoft Networks' service needs to be listed here. If it isn't then click on Install. Select 'Service' and click 'Add'. Then select 'File and Printer sharing for Microsoft Networks' and click 'OK'.

This should enable the Sharing tab for you when you go back to Explorer.

Also try this page from MS for a solution to the 1130 error message. ...

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;en-us;q151427

This directly applies to NT4, but the same problem could apply. Maybe try re-applying SP3 and see if it fixes the problem.

Hope this helps...

I had reinstalled sp3 before getting the NIC to work, so that seemed plausible, but alas it did not fix the problem.

The link you suggested was interesting because I did not find it in my search of the MS knowledge base. Interesting.

I would guess that to fix the problem, I need to uninstall something and then reinstall it, but I have gone throught the obvious without success. The obvious are networking, nic, file and print sharing and similar.

Might you have other suggestions? It is really an odd problem.

What makes this problem even more confusing is that my printer shows the sharing tab (and shows the printer as being shared), but when I try to unshare it (to remove and reinstall), explorer says that it cannot save the new printer settings.
